JAPAN - KYOTO KINKAKU-JI GOLDEN PAVILION

Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist Temple. The original building was erected around 1400 and burned down for the first time during a war around 1470.  A monk in 1950 burned it down so this is a 1955 reconstruction. The top two floors are coated in gold leaf to mitigate against negative thoughts about death.
